Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need a Diagnosis to Work With You?

No! Many clients come before or during the diagnostic process. If ADHD traits are impacting your life, you can benefit from coaching.

How is Coaching Different to Therapy?

Coaching is focused on the future and how to create change. Therapy looks back to understand why. Both are a powerful support depending on where you are in your journey.

Can You Work With My Child?

Parent mentoring can create bigger, longer lasting change (because parents have more time with their child, impact on their environment, routines, and emotional climate of their ADHD child). Children automatically benefit from these changes.

I support parents with the heavy load they are carrying in a compassionate, non-judgmental, action-based way!

I do work with some children, alongside providing parents with appropriate education and support. Contact me to talk further.

See below for more info on working with teens.

Can You Work With My Teen?

Yes! If your teen wants some coaching, is looking for help with homework, procrastination, overwhelm, anxiety, lacks self-compassion and needs (a positive!) understanding of ADHD and what this means for them, I would love to talk with them.

These sessions are very flexible depending on what they need. I can teach them ADHD friendly approaches to study while they do some of homework during the session. Practical and productive!.

I provide a written summary (with their permission) to share with you so you can support them with what we've been working on.

Can I Get Sessions Funded?

Unfortunately most clients pay for sessions privately, as it can be hard to access funding. Other options include:

  • Sessions funded by your employer.

  • Some clients get sessions funded by WINZ (quotes happily provided).

  • I run a free local support group, as well as heavily subsidised education sessions through Flourish (online and in-person, see Events).

  • If you or your child has a Community Services Card please talk to me about further options.

Is There More to Coaching Than Strategies?

Definitely! Strategies are only one small part of ADHD coaching (and yes they can be super helpful!). The deeper work is about self‑acceptance, understanding your brain, and building confidence in how you move through the world. Understanding that years of negative messaging can impact your belief in yourself. Finding ways to thrive and live the life you love is key!

Support with your overall wellbeing and emotional regulation in a most compassionate space is of utmost importance to me. Creating change that lasts, helping you feel understood, capable, and supported as you grow.

How Do I Know If Coaching Is Right For Me?

Anyone can benefit from coaching regardless of where you are in your journey! If you're unsure, please email or text me for a free 20 minute (absolutely no obligation) consultation and we can talk more. I am always happy to chat to people about how it might work for them, what benefit they might get and to see if we are the right fit to work together. I am always happy to recommend other professionals who may be able to support you if coaching is not right for you.

Do You Work With Groups Or Couples?

Yes I work with both couples and groups. This includes couples where one (or both) has ADHD, parents and co-parents, extended family and whanau.

If you are an individual with a group of 2 - 5 others that would like some group coaching, this is an excellent affordable way to access support. Contact me to find out more about how this can work.

How Many Coaching Sessions Do I Need and How Often?

This is entirely up to you! I like to be flexible to accommodate people's busy lives and financial limitations. Generally I recommend creating some momentum (weekly or fortnightly sessions) and as we progress this can become 3-4 weekly, then moving to check-ins whenever you like. There is no commitment in terms of a minimum number and you can stop whenever you feel ready. Some clients work with me for a few months and others stay a lot longer. Please talk to me further about what works for you.  One-off education sessions or planning/goal-setting sessions are also welcome.
